About Susan Ressler     Inquiry

Remnants of Algonquin culture still survive. This gives these pictures ethnographic value, as they trace the last vestiges of a lifestyle that has almost disappeared. Ever since white trappers and fur traders first came to the region, the Indian way of life has increasingly been disrupted. Anthropologists call it "anomie", a state of profound alienation from one's roots. Today, with the advent of logging and other forms of modern industry, fishing is threatened as well.
